There is so much to do and see that is near New House Caravan Park.

Kirkby Lonsdale is just over a mile away and has cafes, pubs and shops to browse in and also some lovely river walks.

Legend has it that the Devil built the bridge one night, after seeing a cow stranded on one shore of the river, hoping to take the soul of it's owner coming across to reclaim it. But the locals are canny and the old lady threw a roll of bread across and her dog followed it and was claimed.

There are many excellent restaurants, cafés and bars to eat and drink in and around Kirkby Lonsdale, The Lunesdale Bakery and Dales Butchers. Booths supermarket is just beside the A65 and is very useful. See Kirkby Lonsdale website .

Following the Lune Valley downstream you arrive quickly at Lancaster, where for a reasonable charge you can imprison your loved ones in the castles dungeons. Whilst you have some peace and enjoy it's historic quay, Williamson Park and some shopping whilst having the knowledge that they are still under lock and key. Actually it's just for a few minutes but they aren't reading this, you are and you can dream.

Heading North up the Lune valley from New House Caravan Park is Sedbergh, a 'Book Town', a pretty small Cumbrian town that thinks it's North Yorkshire, and yes lots of bookshops to browse in, a few nice pubs for lunch, Italian restaurant, and walks, then just a little further on explore the cobbled streets of Dent Village where the 'terrible knitters' came from and probably still are.

Just a few minutes away is Ingleton with its amazing White Scar Caves and Waterfalls Walk. Inglenook Chippy is hard to beat and there is an open air swimming pool for hot summer days, a new antiques emporium has recently opened beside the main road. Settle is little further on, visit the Folly Museum, walk Castle Scar and enjoy a light meal at 'Ye Olde Naked Man'.

The Auld Grey Town of Kendal is twenty minutes in the other direction and houses a collection of important museums and galleries, and another twenty minutes finds you beside Windermere and in the Lakes.
